Hi everyone.
I was making note of the serial numbers of my small Mitchell collection, and found what I think is the letter i (I) on my 1979 410A. I dated it to 79 because of the unique handle lock of that time (assuming it is original to this reel of course; if so, not an 'L'), which stayed the same design wise in 1980, but was changed to black plastic (79-80).
In the serial number list on the website, it states that the letter i was not used to avoid confusion with the number 1 (I understand that Wallace means 'probably not used').
There are some number 1 stamps in the serial, but they are different from the prefix.
I will try to post some photos, but I am new to this forum, so please bear with me.

Sorry, I was mistaken on the date that handle lock came in. I believe it was 1978..ish

We know that over the years Mitchell lightly stamped or not complete stamping of serial numbers on the bottom of the foot. Since you "dated" to around 1978-1979 it is quite possible the right side of an H. Seems to make sense.

Ah! I hadn't thought of that, so yes, that could be the answer; a 1978 model.
