Multiple hours searching: Mitchell Left Hand, spring loaded smooth handle, 6 digit serial# no prefix, hockey stick / gull wing, made in france on serial # side and Mitchell only script on opposite. Apparently 1956 or earlier? Can not find a comparable after long time and am a very experienced researcher.
I took some pics but was not able to load (file to large)

carlrockson,
to the Mitchell Reel Museum.
If you are using Windows on a computer, you can click on the picture file and then click on the 3 dots at the top of the picture to resize the picture to 750 pixels. If that doesn't work, we'll try something else.

If it is 6 numbers it would be from 1953 up to mid block 1955.
Do not know exact month in 55 numbers hit 7 digits.
If memory serves me Wallace had a article with all this info.53 thru 55 are my favorite years.
If using reel, early ones could have a plastic transfer gear, that I would put a metal one in it, Mitchell found out plastic did not last.
