How rare is Mitchell 440ALC

Post by Bill Smith »

I just received a Mitchell 440 ALC mint in box for Christmas. I was wondering just how rare this reel was. Can not wait to try it out.

NIB is very hard to come by these days. Definitely worth way more than a used one.

Sometimes the box sleeves were Match ones altered with a sticker.

For some reason the reels production figures were not fully recorded by Mitchell but some were made in 1983, the reels in 1984, '85 and '86 are possibly included with the numbers made of the 440 reel.

This reel and it's changes are well recorded in George Saul's new book, The Mitchell Century, with images of gold badges and black screws.

When compared to other 300 variants it's a pretty rare reel.

Great reel and nice gift.

I did a quick search and found that Mike's Reel Repair has one NIB -- https://www.mikesreelrepair.com/mitchel ... new-in-box

I checked Mike's and he lists the reel which bailarm mentions. I never knew they put stickers on a Match box for the ALC to be sold in. Not surprized as I have other "stickered" boxes. The price seems very reasonable too.
