Built this a few years ago. a 2x3 45degree holes and dowels.

Much nicer than what I did. Are you using rubber bands to bind the reels to the dowels?

I just found some scrap 1x2 and used the table router to cut some 3/8" slots every 4 inches or so on the backside and mounted it to the 2x6. It works well. I had earlier rigged something else up on the 2x6 but I accidently bumped a 304 reel and it crashed onto the bare concrete floor. The fall really messed up the rotor, so I knew I had to do find a better way.
